I would just like to share a few thoughts about today's killing of al-Zarqawi, the leader of al Qaeda inside Iraq. For me it is absolutely gruesome to see Tony Blair, George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, not to mention the Iraqi leaders being extremely pleased with his killing. We live in a time where killing is a source celebration! Surely, Zarqawi was a cruel terrorist, but this kind of sick rejoicing because he was bombed and killed is truly evil!
Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche has said that according to Pabongka Rinpoche, negative rejoicing when somebody we hate dies - just rejoicing itself - creates the karma of actual killing that person. And if a thousand die, and you are happy about it, you create the karma of killing one thousand people! (Advice regarding negative rejoicing)
Here is a wonderful interview with Michael Berg, a father whose son was beheaded by Zarqawi's group, feeling nothing but forgiveness and regret for the terrorist's death. He said: "How can a human being be glad that another human being is dead?" Revenge breeds revenge
