Simona 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 Dear everyone, regarding a New Year 2009 is coming , I would like to propose the organization of a New Year Bazar. It is time when we usually spend some extra money on buying little presents for friends, family members or those, who we would wish to make them happy with expression of attention. Why to go in shops and buy things? I believe we all have in our homes many many things we don`t need, yet they could make happy somebody else. Here they go: books, vases, stones, shells, purses, glassy bottles, candles, tablecloths, etc., Why not gather together, make a stand in front of Dharma center on one Saturday in December evening at 18.00, bring the things, put them on the stand and everyone could pick something new for himself and herself, for a modest donation, of course. In this way we practice non-attachment, because giving the stuff we have, to somebody else, we support Dharma Center, because of giving the donation, we socialize and chat. If anyone is interested, please do not hesitate to join, as well, a workshop for New Year cards - Dharma cards would be appreciated. New Year is time when we make new plans, it is a symbol of New Start. Let it be in the spirit of generosity and benefiting the others with what we already have got. Simona 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 Practicing generosity in this case is working on our attachments and accumulating incommensurable amount of merits because supporting a Dharma center! I wish to help with organization Thank You very much, Tchokyi So far, we have for the organization confirmed: Khyenrab, Tchokyi, plus there would be one or two persons for New Year cards (set by phone) and m_v (waiting for their confirmation). Five members so far Thank you and the organization team is still open for anybody who wish to join! We would need persons to bring 3 - 4 garden candles, too and somebody for making a tea and eventually serve it in the pots.
Dechen 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 I like the idea of the bazaar very much too and I would like to join the effort. Well, it also depends on the date when it will take place, but you can count me in. Concerning the finances of the Dharma Centre, unfortunately Slovenes tend to be miserly with their money in terms of donations. Charitable activities are not as well developed as elsewhere and the awareness about it is not very high. Everybody has good intentions, of course, but when it comes to giving, their good intentions disappear. I speak from experience from trying to collect aid for people in the war-affected areas of Yugoslavia. People don't like to part with their money for purposes that do not immediately concern them. They are more ready to donate clothes, but more because they want to get rid of the old stuff and it was absolutely necessary to check all donated clothes, because there was a lot of old rags that could no longer be used. But I could understand this more in other places and with other people, but not among Buddhists. I hope we wake up and keep the Ljubljana Dharma Centre going. Khyenrab 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 I guess it was immature of me to joke a little bit in my previous post, though i ment it in a positive way... Since any project ment to support the Dharma Center must be sacred, especially when there is a great need to do so, as is now. Sorry about that. It would be wonderful, if we all examined our capabilities, be very honest with ourselves, and give what we truly can... And keep in mind that Dharma is priceless and the source of all happiness. Simona 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2008 Dear all, it`s great joy to inform you about the second phase of the organization and give you some news and directions suggested from your side. Some of you expressed a wish to offer at Bazaar some "hand made" items, as well, which you would make by your own. We welcome this idea warmly, so that those interested could just start with work according to their own schedules, free time, material. The only recommendation we would have is, such "hand made" items shall be of the certain quality regarding the make, looking very very nice. Regarding New Year cards we plan to organize a workshop in November, which would last for about 3 hours - in the afternoon. About exact termin and place we all will be informed. There are 10 members, working on organization and proposing ideas. Some of them we placed them here, some of them are in the phase of consideration. All ideas welcome. Thank you & kind regards your organization team
Gigu 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2008 on Saturday December, 13th at 18.00. You are not afraid it will be dark and cold? What's about in afternoon rather, around 15:00 or 16:00?
m_v 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2008 Dear Workshop Participants, Simona and me were talking about what we could put on New Year cards as decoration. As for me, i give my aesthetic preferences, maybe some of our Dharmaling „craftsmen†would get some inspiration or further ideas from them. I am not very good at art, but i like the wall paintings and motifs from Dunhuang caves, and Western Tibetan art, frescos, like from Guge or the region of Ngari, what belongs to himalayan art. I like their colors, and the figures are quite suggestive. If i was about making presents i would use these as model. Or if we want to make more simple, we could put other buddhist symboles, like the 8 auspicious signs or lotuses etc. (http://www.religionfacts.com/buddhism/symbols.htm , http://buddhism.kalachakranet.org/symbols_tibet_buddhism.htm, http://www.prayerflags.com/display.asp?catid=3&id=24 One very good book of Buddhist symbols is „The Encyclopedia of Tibetan Symbols and Motifs†from Robert Beer, and there are very clear outlines of Buddhist images in „Tibetan Thangka Painting†by David & Janice Jackson. If you can find them, they could be good help. On internet you can find also quite some sites, some of my preferences are below (though not enough pictures) Sites for Himalayan, Dunhuang etc. art: http://www.himalayanart.org/search/set.cfm...1371&page=1 http://www.silk-road.com/dunhuang/dhcaves.html http://www.sdchm.org/collections.php http://www.textile-art.com/dun/cave285.html http://www.textile-art.com/dun1.html http://www.chineseartpaintings.com/1gp002f.html http://www.chineseartpaintings.com/Buddhist_Paintings.html http://www.pbase.com/dbh/designs http://www.greenkiwi.co.nz/footprints/frames/gu_art.htm http://www.himmies.com/h1/milarepa.html http://www.cyberyong.com/ http://www.tibetanmalashop.com some more handicraft ideas, what we could do beside the cards (check the left column too, like „office accessoriesâ€Âetc) http://www.craftsinindia.com/pen-stands/ http://www.dollsofindia.com/gallery/Indian...lkArtPaintings/ contemporary tibetan artist: http://www.gyatsostudio.com/gallery_2.html (check tibetan visual art too, on the left) ( all the new links i 'v found will be put in this post, so if interested, check it for updates) mariann

Simona 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2008 Dear all, the hour of the New Year Bazaar is changed to 16.00. If you wish to bring some items before the bazaar will take place, we can recommend you to bring them before each Teaching, when there is a special wicker basked appointed specially for this occasion. See you all on Saturday, December 13th at 16.00 at Melikova 1, Ljubljana.
Simona 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 The other day I was thinking about the stuff I have got at home and which I don`t use it anymore. About making a list of it and proceed analytical meditation upon, why I buy, what I buy etc. It went all fine, until I didn`t start to calculate how much money is placed in all these items. And how the motivation to buy them were - emotions, you know, emotions (movere, move). I saw a thing, being moved by its niceness or thinking I need it and - bought it. Few days I kept looking at it and after some time I didn`t notice it anymore. That thing satisfied my emotion and when the emotion ceased, the thing ceased as well from my perspective. Karma. I would like to transform all these karma coloured staff, and I cannot find any other way as to give and get them with the better, higher Motivation as this was the case in the past. Such Motivation which change and transform is Bodhicitta, Compassion. So, I am observing quite attentively all the stuff at my home again and check the Motivation before chose and bring for the New Year Bazaar. So, for the end, I wish you all a good selection of the items and this Friday you can bring them already before the Teaching at Dharma center. See you
