lezjon 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Hi and peace to all . i was wondering when doing prostations ; how many one should do ! I meditate in the morning and prostate to my shrine before I begin some times during , when I finish and then when i pray for our teachers and after my prayer for all ! Is that too many . Can there be too many ? is it inauspicious to do too many . I feel it is a mark of respect and I don't mind doing several but if it is not right I would not like to be offensive. mavrica 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Dear lezjon, prostrations are a sign of respect to the buddhas and buddha nature in general and you can never do too many of them - as it is also impossible to show "too much" of genuine respect to another person If it were inauspicious, pilgrims would never prostrate such distances and (from the teacher given) number of prostrations would not serve as a preliminary practice ... What matters is not how many prostrations you do but what is your mind like when you do them. Well, it is pretty much like with everything else we do in our lives, I guess. With my best wishes, Chödzin

dani 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Dear Lezjon, there is a whole practice based on prostrations, I think it translates as Prostrations to 35 Buddhas of Confession (also Boddhistava's Confession of Moral Downfals) in which you do 108 long prostrations per session (http://www.dharmaling.org/content/view/31/33/lang,en/) - can give sore muscles till you get used to it. It is said to be extremelly powerful in purifing past negative karma, so if you like doing prostrations, I think you might enjoy this practice... a Dharma teacher or a Dharma centre would surely have a copy of this amazing pratice... All best! D.

lezjon 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Dear all,Here is a link to several other links about this practice: http://www.thirtyfivebuddhas.org/main.html Best regards, K wow ! I had no idea there was so much to it . I was instructed in the Sadhana of Manjushri Arapatza by Tsarpa Lochen Choedak Rinpoche . It is a beautiful meditation and touches on quite a few of the aspects in the 35 Buddhas . I will stay doing this as well as my calm abiding meditation , my simple prostrations and the blessing of speech mantra "Om a Ra pa Tsa Na Dhih " I am new to this please excuse me if my translation is not correct I mean no disrespect . thank you best wishes and kind regards lezjon.
