Drnovsek in Tibet

Recommended Posts

Below is a short summary of today's STA report.

Sadly, it clearly shows how blind politics can be. Dr. Drnovsek was apparently completely satisfied with lies he got from the Chinese officials while visiting Lhasa. He must have liked the sight-seeing tour!

As we know 1.2 million people have been killed in Tibet since the Chinese invasion, 6.000 Buddhist monasteries destroyed, thousands of people tortured, raped, deprived of all of their freedoms and human rights. We also know that this brutal process of cultural and religious genocide continues today. Not to mention the refugees!

--

Going back from his visit to China Slovenian president Drnovsek also paid a visit to Tibet. There he met with representatives of the Chinese governement who presented him the conditions in Tibet. They explained to him that they invest a lot of funds in the preservation of cultural and religious heritage (Potala palace for example), and in particular that they respect religious freedom and religious activities. They also said that in spite of ethnic differences the people live in harmony. To which president Drnovsek expressed his satisfaction, and contentment. He added that he is also satisfied with the growing awareness of the importance of preservation of natural environment. Also, he is happy about the great progress in infrastucture. In his opinion Slovenia has a lot of interest in Tibet. He also spoke with the Chinese vice-president Zeng Qinghong about different possibilities of cooperation between Slovenia and Tibet.

--

One more thing i would like to add, which i maybe find even more shocking! Dr. Drnovsek stated in "Modna Jana" that he is encouraging His Holiness the Dalai Lama that he stops eating meat (that "he will not reach any higher goals by doing so"(!)). Drnovsek stated that His Holiness maintains that killing an animal for yourself is perfectly all right. Which is a lie. His Holiness is a fully ordained monk. First Buddhist Pratimoksha vow is not to kill any sentient being. As we know His Holiness does eat some meat, under His doctor's advice, but this is another matter.

What arrogance. :confused3:

How quickly one can throw projections! I would say that you cannot judge the President only on the basis of what is officially writen! You might not know at all what was really stated behind the scene!

The purpose of Mr. Drnovsek wasn't originally to visit Tibet, but the meeting in China. The president took the opportunity - though the Chinese gov. wasn't very enthusiastic about - to visit Tibet and emphasis the need of ethics.

Though, what is shocking are the lies the Chineses are spreading on and on, as if the infrastructure they are installing for the good of Tibetans! It is meant to carry Chineses and Tourist to Tibet, and to bring quicker military weapons to the border with India, in case...  :confused3:

Thank you.

Guilty as charged.  :icon_pale:

But why would the media report: "Drnovsek happy from Tibet"? I am having some problems with that tone. Shouldn't the president at least say something about the atrocities there?

Also, what is the use of expression of political opinions if they are stated merely behind the sceens?? If actions and opinions are not at least slightly contradicted/protested against in public, in front of the media. What's the use?

Best regards

May be happy to have had the opportunity to visit Tibet. Nothing wrong with this  :tongue3:

As a president, he is bound to "diplomacy" and can't say what he wants, otherwise this can have consequences over the country he represents as a whole... and won't help Tibet at all.

Note that stating explicitly "coorperation between Slovenia and Tibet" is already a recognition of Tibet as, if not a country at least an important part of an other country, specific enough to be named by it's own name and not "China"  :icon_biggrin:

Establishing good relations, and initiating cooperation with Tibet can bring some long terme benefits. No?

Thank you.

Tashi delek,

From what I know Mr. Drnovsek is fully aware of the situation about Tibet, and what country & people have gone through since 50 years. Yet, Mr. Drnovsek is the President of a State and must act according to this position for the benefit of all (Tibet included).

Lets not judge everything on their sole appearances (specially if mixed with poltical consideration).

Diplomatic approach is also the one of His Holiness, if I'm not mistaken. It might take more time, but have deeper results...

Sometime, people who say the most are not the ones who are doing the most! ;)

All the best,        Gelong T. Shenphen

On the official website of the president of the Slovenia there is a report about Drnovsek's visit (http://www.up-rs.si/); it should be also in English soon. Since his interview in Modna Jana was mentioned, it might be good to point out that in there he said that Tibet might be the next issue he takes on - and due to Drnovsek's views he is surely on the side of autonomy, but is perhaps forced to act diplomatically.
