* Refuge: First formal step on the Buddhist Path, "Taking Refuge" is the expression of one's faith in the Three Jewels.
* Bodhisattva vows: Specific to the Mahayana Path, the "Bodhisattva vows" are lines of conduct to follow the Bodhisattva Path. A rare occasion to take or renew these vows. (Requires to have taken Refuge at least one year before).
* Genyen vows: First vows which can be taken by lay men or women, to support one's decision to live a correct ethical life. (Requires the permission from one's Lama).
* Rabjung vows: First range of monk/nun's vows. (Requires the permission from one's Lama and to have follow the pre-ordination course.)
